SUMMARY:Conducting Effective Harassment Investigations - April 29 - May 1\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:Investigating harassment in your agency can be an intimidating assignment\, one that is rife with innuendo\, conflicting accounts\, and raw emotions. This course provides a successful and effective approach to conducting legally sufficient harassment investigations that gives the agency the information it needs\, while withstanding third-party scrutiny. \nTuesday\, April 29: Investigating Harassment: Misconduct Principles\nToday’s class explains the principles that underpin a successful investigation of employee misconduct\, whether it’s on-duty or off-duty. Attendees will learn the five elements of discipline and understand how they relate to the misconduct investigation process. Plus\, they’ll learn about evidence standards and burdens of proof in misconduct cases\, how Douglas factors play into an investigation\, the importance of nexus\, what to do when a witness won’t cooperate\, and much more. \nWednesday\, April 30: Understanding Harassment and Planning the Investigation\nThis class explains the proper role of the investigator and how you can avoid the pitfalls of an insufficient investigation with correct preparation and knowledge. It distinguishes between EEO and non-EEO harassment claims. It also tackles the important questions about representation: Does the witness have the right to a representative? Does the union have a right to attend the interview – even if the witness doesn’t want the union there? What rights does agency management have? And more. \nThursday\, May 1: Conducting the Investigation and Writing the Report\nLearn the legal principles and proven guidance to navigate this critical and challenging part of harassment investigations – conducting the interviews and gathering relevant evidence. Attendees will leave the session with techniques for questioning\, tools for reading body language\, suggestions on how to handle difficult personality types\, and tips for writing the fact-finding report (FFR) and report of investigation (ROI). Plus\, learn how technology is changing the investigation process\, including tips for conducting virtual interviews. \nLearning objectives\n\nIdentify the relationship between the foundations of Federal accountability and harassment investigations.\nDiscern the difference between EEO and non-EEO harassment\, and the impact that has on the investigation’s legal sufficiency.\nIdentify witness rights and management rights.\nProperly handle challenging witnesses.\nWrite a thorough report of investigation.\n\nTraining time\n1:00 pm – 4:30 pm ET each day \nPricing\nEarly bird (register by March 28\, 2025) \n\n3 days = $1\,230\n2 days = $855\n1 day = $525\n\nStandard (register March 29 – May 1\, 2025) \n\n3 days = $1\,330\n2 days = $955\n1 day = $625\n\nEvent FAQs \nCan I attend this class using my government computer? \nThis event will be held on Zoom. SUMMARY:Using Progressive Discipline in the Federal Workplace - May 8\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:The administration has highlighted that agencies should swiftly and properly deal with employees who engage in misconduct. In many cases\, progressive discipline is a win-win for agencies. It’s a valuable tool to (hopefully) correct an employee’s misconduct. But\, if it doesn’t have its intended effect\, it gives the agency a solid basis to support a removal action. \nThis class will explain what progressive discipline is\, as well as why and when to use it. Discussion will center on MSPB decisions that highlight effective use of discipline – and those that don’t. \nLearning objectives\n\nDetermine how to handle prior discipline that is either old or has since been reversed.\nRecognize situations when progressive discipline is not required.\nUse effective aggravating language in your proposal.\n\nTraining time\n1:00 pm – 2:00 pm ET \nPricing\nEarly bird (register by April 8\, 2025): $195.00 \nStandard (register April 9 – May 8\, 2025): $250.00 \nEvent FAQs\nCan I attend this class using my government computer?\nThis event will be held on Zoom.
